Congratulations to Gary Deters on earning team MVP honors for the 2008 season. Gary had a great season. While his tangible on the field achievements can certainly be measured it is his off the field contributions that keeps the team focused all while make sure things are fun. He certainly reinforced why he has been the team captain the past few years.
Gary was given the award last night at the Lakers year end picnic. It was a fun evening with great food and good entertainment. We’d like to thank Laker great Dan Zimmermann for organizing the event.

Congrats Dets!! I’d like to say we knew he’d do all of these things the day we signed him, but he was just a carefree kid back then, much like Mick and me when we first joined this squad. Somehow people change when they wear the green long enough. Now he’s helping teach our younger kids the right way to treat the game and the players. I hope you stick with us for years to come!
I also would like to thank Davey for all of his work keeping the squad together, and everyone that helped out to make this year another fun one.
I think he stuffed the ballot.
Matt Meyer…never heard of him
Thanks for the kind words Zimmy! Thanks for setting up the event, it was very fun.
I will eventually be putting the beer pong video on YouTube for all to see. By the way, the Jim/Janelle comeback might have been the most clutch of all-time.
Also, Jimmy…it’s an embarrassment you weren’t there, ND? Come on!!! I have a witness who saw my vote…no stuffing there
Isn’t Meyer the guy who is currently engaged to Jimmy Clausen?
Troy Wunderlich sets an Avon pitching record with a 12-3 record and doesnt win the team MVP? He’d get my vote for the whole South Division. How is the Vote tallied?
That would be engaged to Derek Jeter. Happy Meal. Jimmy Clausen is a close second.
Baseball Fan- Votes are tallied by Deters stuffing the ballot. ahhahahahahahaha. Whoever is there votes for who they think is the MVP. Deters had one hell of a season and was well deserving of the award. Troy also had a great season. Not bad when you can have a debate of two people who should have been the MVP.
Baseball Fan,
The MVP voting process is a very complex and arduous process to ensure that the best candidate is always selected.
It involves paper, a pen, some Tupperware and Ma’s math. I’d go into more details but our legal department gets nervous about passing out that kind of proprietary information.
What I can tell you is that we are presenting this voting process to Congress since they might use it for the next Presidential election.
Congrats Dets…It is well deserved. I think T-bone is just a bad influence on the younger guys…j’/k, of course. Plus, he better start working out…he just might start looking like Sabathia. You guys had a good season and were just a few key hits away from getting her done. Keep the Laker green…I guess white now…going. Also, let’s get some height in that line-up…man you guys are short.
Speekills-We are all the same height in bed!!!!!!!!!!!
That sounds pretty gay. I hope that’s not your pick up line.
matt…. dont say inappropriate things. and how many votes did i get? : )
I want a recount….I know I voted for myself at least 15 times
