Yogi Berra is famous for his goofy quotes and stooge looks. Bryce Rushmeyer’s quote, "That guy doesn’t look like a ballplayer, I saw his face", certainly comes to mind when seeing him. Yogi got this reaction over and over throughout his career and always came back with “I’ve never seen a guy hit with his face”. What most miss out on is that Yogi was one heck of a baseball player. He loved the game and his teammates but most importantly he thrived on winning.
Ten Rings (preview) is his biography that centers on the 10 World Series he won as a player with the New York Yankees. It is a very quick read and extremely hard to put down. It is 10 chapter that covers each championship season while bringing in stories from other years in his 17 year Hall of Fame career.
From playing with Joe DiMaggio to Mickey Mantle, seeing baseball’s movement from New York to California and baseball’s expansion in the early 60’s. Yogi was always in the middle of it all.
If you are a fan of the game, Yankee fan or not, this is a must read 5 out of 5!
